Shopfloor Linux Integration

ImageHere we have a legacy system control PLC that requires the ability to communicate with modern operating systems and hardware.  In this project, Team Automation took a Linux server and created a commuications gateway between PLC hardware and Level 2 shopfloor systems.

The Problem

Existing level 1 PLC contained no modern OPC or HMI scada drivers. There was no way to communicate to PLC layer with modern products like Wonderware's Intouch or capture information into OSI-PI historian.  New control strategies could not easily be implemented without the fear of reboot failures or software errors.  Existing level 1 hardware / software could not be replaced at the time but the control system and HMI interfaces required an update.

The Solution

Provide a gateway interface that will act like the level 1 interface but will provide modern communication layers to allow for development of high powered HMI's and control models. Team Automation took a Linux server and created an interface to allow for the new HMI's and legacy level 1 PLC's to work in harmony.

The Result

Project was delivered on time and a new HMI / control system providing future growth for there product delievery.
