DSI: Selected as System Integrator for High-Speed Packaging Line for a Non-Lactam Finishing Facility in Mayaguez, PR.

The facility had a request for a system to integrate all critical devices on a new packing line for the oral process area. All equipment manufactures were to include an AB SLC 5/04 for connection to the integrated system that would allow for batch record and system alarming capabilities.

DSI’s role in delivery of this project:

• Design the PC based monitoring system
• Provide an industry standard platform for delivery of the system
• Work with the packaging engineering team to develop key and critical User Requirement Specifications for both the SCADA and batch record functionality
• Provide support for company during the CFAT portion of the project when all the equipment manufactures assembled the line off-site

DSI delivered the following:

• A PC based system running Wonderware 7.0 on Windows NT 4.0
• Interfaced to the SLC 5/04 via Wonderware’s Data Highway+ IO Server to pull critical PLC data into the SCADA PC
• Connected the following seven SLC 5/04s to the system via a DH+ interface card. The following equipment was integrated and monitored:

• Developed an intuitive graphical user interface to show packaging line status and alarming
• Provided an intuitive batch record system based on Microsoft Access 2000
• Provided an integrated shift/run reporting system to track material usage
• Provided history for all production runs of the system
• Provided a Web interface for remote system monitoring; system is capable of being integrated onto the automation LAN
